The BH1750 Light Sensor Module is a compact digital ambient light sensor designed to measure the intensity of surrounding light in lux (lx). Based on the BH1750FVI digital light sensor, this module provides a convenient I2C interface, making it easy to integrate with popular development boards such as Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi, and STM32.

Unlike simple LDR-based light sensors that provide an analog voltage requiring calibration, the BH1750 provides a digital light measurement, making it useful for applications where reliable ambient-light monitoring is required.

Its compact size, low power consumption, and straightforward I2C communication make it suitable for IoT devices, smart lighting systems, display brightness control, automation projects, robotics, and environmental monitoring applications.

How It Works

The BH1750 detects the intensity of visible light using its integrated photosensitive element and converts the detected light level into a digital value. The connected microcontroller communicates with the sensor through the I2C bus and can read the measured illumination level in lux.

This digital approach makes the BH1750 convenient for applications where a numerical light-intensity value is required rather than simply detecting whether an area is bright or dark.
